Kidneys Boosted by Peas

Common garden peas could be used to help people fight high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease, researchers have discovered. Peas have long been recognized as a ‘superfood’ because they are loaded with fibers and vitamins.
But now scientists have uncovered a protein in garden peas that reduced blood pressure in rats by 20%. “In people with high blood pressure, our protein could potentially delay or prevent the onset of kidney damage,” said study author Rotimi Aluko, a food chemist at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada.
